Adam Smith was the Scottish philosopher and economist best known for The Wealth of Nations, his pioneering book on free trade and market economics. Since 1977, the Institute has been an innovator of market economic policies, promoting free trade, choice and competition. |

Centre for Policy Studies
The CPS was founded in 1974 by Margaret Thatcher and Keith Joseph, and can claim a large share of the credit for initiating policies such as privatisation, trade union reform, council house sales, pensions deregulation and public services reform. |

The Centre believes that the war on poverty requires a new approach. It also runs an annual awards programme for effective poverty-fighting organisations. |

Civitas

Conservative Animal Welfare Group
The group works closely with mainstream animal welfare groups and wants to see that animal welfare reforms are given a high priority within the Party. It has a basic philosophy that animals are sentient beings and should be treated with respect. |

Conservative Christian Fellowship
The interdenominational CCF is renewing the Christian contribution to the Party. It produces a quarterly full-colour journal entitled 'Conservatism' for its members. The CCF holds regular events and communicates Conservative thinking to Britain's churches. |
